And it might be a bit more than rumors. We know that the Westgate Superbook is planning an expansion east. And the head of the Superbook, Jay Kornegay was impressed with NJ generating more revenue from sports betting than NV in May. So it’s likely that the next step will be New Jersey indeed.

Sports betting becomes legal in NJ

How did it happen? The state of New Jersey had challenged Nevada-held monopoly on Online Gambling. In June 2018 the Supreme Court struck down a piece of legislation upholding this monopoly, the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act. It opened the doors for each state to regulate their own sports betting industry. New Jersey was ready, and just within days from the ruling, first sports bets were placed in the Garden State. Now, NJ Online Sports Betting is completely legal.

Sports betting online has been legal in New Jersey ever since. Each new operator needs to get licensed by the state Division of Gaming Enforcement. According to the information on the state government website, Westgate Sportsbook NJ is not licensed yet.
